PROJECT SUMMARY
This project involves providing structural engineering services for the proposed Toowong Central redevelopment, a comprehensive mixed-use development. The plan includes three levels of basement car parking, designed to accommodate extensive vehicle storage and service functions. Above the basements, the development will feature a supermarket, retail tenancies, a cinema, a gym, and a childcare facility, contributing to a vibrant and versatile commercial space. The project also includes a podium level for additional car parking. Rising above this podium will be two towers, which will house commercial offices, residential apartments, and a hotel. The structural engineering work will ensure the integration of these diverse components, focusing on stability, load distribution, and overall structural coherence to support the complex’s dynamic uses.
Key Engineering Details
Ground contamination combined with high groundwater levels across the site required considered design of the external shoring and basement slab, to ensure no ingress into the basement. Similarly, the basement footprint and levels were designed to minimize excavation in hard rock and the requirement for basement slab ground anchors. Detailed coordination of architure and structure allowed the structural columns to be placed to minimize the need for transfer structures.
