Bornhorst + Ward is seeking an experienced Civil Designer / Engineer to join our growing Brisbane Civil team. This role is ideal for a technically strong and commercially aware professional who can confidently manage projects from concept through to detailed design, while working collaboratively within a high-performing team.

We’re looking for someone who brings both design precision and practical site understanding to deliver thoughtful, compliant and buildable outcomes across a diverse range of civil projects.

About the Role

You will play a key role in the planning, design and coordination of civil infrastructure projects across Queensland, including:

  • Residential subdivisions

  • Property and private/commercial developments

  • Main roads design

  • Bulk earthworks

  • Roadways

  • Carparks and hardstand areas

  • Commercial and retail developments

  • Underground infrastructure services including stormwater, sewer and water reticulation

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and coordinate civil engineering designs from concept to construction documentation

  • Undertake earthworks modelling, road design and infrastructure layout

  • Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors and local authorities

  • Review and interpret authority requirements and standards

  • Provide technical input and practical construction insight into design solutions

  • Mentor and support junior designers and engineers

  • Contribute to project planning, reporting and design reviews

  • Attend site inspections and maintain a strong understanding of on-site civil works

About You

You will have:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in civil design and engineering

  • Strong experience across subdivisions and commercial developments within Queensland

  • Solid understanding of civil construction practices and local authority standards

  • Confidence working autonomously and managing client relationships

  • Proven ability to collaborate within a design team and guide junior staff

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering (essential)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Advanced capability in AutoCAD

  • 12d experience (highly regarded)

  • Experience with 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling packages such as DRAINS and TUFLOW (highly regarded)

  • Strong understanding of civil design principles and documentation standards

  • Working towards RPEQ registration
