Senior Structural Engineer Role
Join Our Dynamic Design Team – Work Independently and Collaboratively
(Melbourne-based role with flexible work arrangements)
Bornhorst + Ward is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our dynamic design team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in structural engineering design and be adept at working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities:
Structural Design Leadership:
Lead the design and analysis of structural elements across a diverse range of projects, including commercial, residential, retail, industrial and infrastructure works
Design & Analysis Expertise:
Develop and analyse reinforced and post-tensioned concrete floor systems.
Design and assess steel-framed structures.
Evaluate lateral restraint systems for both concrete and steel building structures.
Delivery of Engineering Models / Drawings
Produce high-quality, accurate design drawings and models that satisfy client expectations and comply with standards and local industry practices.
Technical Interpretation:
Interpret engineering and consultant drawings to ensure accurate and compliant designs.
Team Collaboration & Mentorship:
Work closely with the design and drafting teams, liaise with clients, and mentor junior staff to foster a proactive, solutions-focused work environment.
Key Requirements:
Experience & Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in structural engineering design.
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Technical Skills:
In-depth knowledge of relevant Australian Standards & Codes, and local industry practices.
Proficiency in Steel Frame Analysis Software (e.g., Spacegass, Microstran) and Concrete Design and Analysis Software (e.g., RAPT, Inducta, ETABs, RAM Concept).
Strong understanding of structural design principles.
Soft Skills:
Have a passion for engineering, and relish the opportunity to work on interesting, diverse and challenging projects.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a knack for developing innovative and efficient solutions.
Proficient in Bluebeam, REVIT and Microsoft Office Suite.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Team Orientation:
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a design team, communicate seamlessly with our drafting team, and maintain productive client relationships.
