Current Vacancies
Drafting
Bornhorst + Ward employs Civil and Structural drafters of varying age and experience
levels. Through efficient mentoring and quality checking systems B+W allows drafters
both young and old to advance their skills through on the job experience with the
helpful assistance of more experienced staff members.
Tools Used
Bornhorst + Ward is committed to providing the most
appropriate tools available for drafting staff to
complete their work as efficiently as possible.
Some software tools that Bornhorst + Ward utilizes include:
- Autodesk Autocad (Latest Version)
- Autodesk Revit Structure
- 12D
- Autoturn
Cadet Program
Each year Bornhorst + Ward recruits new school leavers for it's Cadet drafting program.
This progam involves an introduction to drafting, followed by one on one mentoring
from senior drafters. Cadets are also encouraged to complete TAFE qualifications
aside from the in-house training, flexibile arrangements are available to cater
for varying class times.
The program is great way for aspiring young drafters to break into the Engineering
industry and gain on the job experience whilst under the guidance of experienced
and talented senior drafting staff.

Engineering
Bornhorst + Ward offers many opportunities for engineers to work on a multitude

RPEQ accredited senior staff with a multitude of valuable experience, our Engineers

Graduate Program
Each year Bornhorst + Ward recruits graduating university students for a comprehensive

Technology
Bornhorst + Ward utilizes the latest technological advancements to ensure that they
are always providing their staff with the appropriate tools to complete their daily
tasks.
B+W is always looking for ways that technology can assist the efficiency and quality
of product produced. Two examples of this are through in-house software development,
and through the implementation and customization of
Building Information Modelling(BIM) software.
In-house Software Development
Bornhorst + Ward are always seeking ways of providing the best I.T. solution for
their business. Instead of following many other companies into over-complicated
pre-packaged software solutions, B+W employ a dedicated I.T. department that develop
software customized especially for B+W's job process. By building software from
the ground up, a simpler, more user friendly system is achieved that acheives the
goals of both the firm and its staff.
Examples of this include:
- Electronic versions of internal business systems
- Customized internal document management system
- Time saving macros and other add-ons for Autocad and Revit Structure

Implementation of Building Information Modelling software
In 2007, Bornhorst + Ward commenced implementation of the Building Information Modelling
software
Autodesk Revit Structure for use in future Structural projects.
This software allows our Structural department to combine both physical models and
analytical models to allow for a complete, intelligent representation of a structure,
providing complete structural analysis, design and documentation. Instead of creating
a simple graphical representation of a structure, our drafters can now create a
3D model filled with information about each and every component.
The move to this software opens up a wealth of opportunities for more efficient
collaboration between Drafters and Engineers by way of links with existing analysis
software. It also allows Bornhorst + Ward to work more efficiently with Architectural
firms, many of which use a similar software suite.
Bornhorst + Ward is leading the industry with it's implementation of such software,
and is continuing to work on improving it's use through heavy customization.
Office Location
Bornhorst + Ward is conveniently located on the 4th level of 67 Astor Terrace in
Spring Hill, Queensland.
This location is in the heart of Brisbane's CBD, just a 2 minute walk from Central
Station (through the Silverton Arcade) and close to many bus stops including the
busway entrance at King George Square.
If public transport doesn't suit your needs, there is a
Secure Car Park on the
basement floors of the complex, or alternatively you can join other Bornhorst +
Ward staff and make use of
Brisbane's many bike paths
and cycle to work each day.
